There is no built in feature in Windows XP to remove only the recycle bin from the desktop. There is however a local group policy object to remove it.
1. Run gpedit.msc
2. Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop
3. Right click ‘Remove Recycle Bin from desktop’ and select Properties
4. Select Enable
